Climbing Facts & History
Mount Apo: The Highest Peak in the Philippines
Rising to 2,954 meters, Mount Apo is the highest peak in the Philippines and one of Southeast Asia’s most ecologically significant mountains. Located in Mindanao, this massive stratovolcano is known not only for its elevation but also for its striking diversity of landscapes—dense tropical forests, moss-covered trails, volcanic rocks, steaming vents, and crater lakes all appear along its slopes.
For many climbers, Mount Apo is a journey through changing ecosystems rather than just a summit attempt. Its forests are home to rare species, including the critically endangered Philippine eagle, making the mountain a key biodiversity zone. Beyond its ecological importance, Mount Apo also holds deep cultural value for indigenous communities, who regard it as sacred land and associate it with ancestral spirit traditions.
Although it has no recorded historic eruption, geothermal activity remains visible near the summit through sulfur vents and warm ground patches, reminding visitors of its volcanic origin. Today, Mount Apo remains one of the most respected climbs in the region—combining altitude, ecological richness, and cultural heritage in a single mountain experience.

Jana Švecová Opens a New Chapter in Elite Women’s Bouldering with Tokyo Drift (8C)
Jana Švecová has added another major achievement to women’s high-end bouldering by making the first ascent of Tokyo Drift (8C/V15) at Lidomorna. The new line follows part of Adam Ondra’s famous Drift but takes a far more direct path through a steep overhang, creating a shorter yet more intense sequence where the hardest moves come immediately from the start.
Švecová described the ascent as the best day of her climbing career, completed in difficult cold and windy conditions after multiple attempts spread across two seasons and interrupted by finger injuries. The problem marks her second climb at this grade, placing her among the very small group of women worldwide with multiple ascents of V15 difficulty. The route also reinforces her growing reputation as one of the strongest outdoor boulderers of her generation.

Lynx 9.5 mm: Lightweight Precision for Technical Climbs
The Namah Ropes Lynx 9.5 mm dynamic rope is built for climbers who want a balance of low weight, precise handling, and dependable safety. Designed as a single rope, it performs especially well in sport climbing, trad routes, alpine ascents, and multi-pitch environments where smooth rope movement matters most.
Its 48-carrier construction, polyamide core, and abrasion-resistant sheath help maintain durability even under repeated use on rough surfaces. Core thermal treatment improves flexibility, while ultrasonic sealed ends reduce fraying and extend rope life. A visible middle mark also supports safer rappelling and more efficient rope management during technical climbs.
With UIAA 101 and CE EN 892 certification, the Lynx 9.5 mm reflects a design philosophy focused on minimal bulk without sacrificing strength. For climbers who value responsiveness and control, it offers a practical combination of performance, consistency, and long-term reliability across demanding terrain.

Peter Hillary has built an extraordinary mountaineering career while carrying one of the most recognized surnames in climbing history. Born in Auckland, he is the son of Edmund Hillary, yet his own achievements stand independently in the world of exploration.
In 1990, Peter reached the summit of Mount Everest, becoming part of the first father-son pair to complete the climb. He later returned for a second successful ascent and went on to complete the Seven Summits, climbing the highest peak on every continent. His expeditions also include an 84-day journey across Antarctica to the South Pole and a North Pole expedition involving astronaut Neil Armstrong.
Beyond climbing, Hillary has remained active in philanthropy, supporting Himalayan education, rescue efforts, and conservation work. His life reflects not only endurance in extreme environments but also a continued commitment to the mountain communities linked to his family’s legacy

Where Europe Meets on Foot- The European Hiking Federation
The European Hiking Federation continues to strengthen Europe’s walking culture by connecting hiking organisations, protecting trails, and encouraging sustainable outdoor travel across borders. What makes this network especially relevant today is how it combines tradition with new participation formats from certified long-distance routes to interactive public engagement.
A major focus this season is Eurorando 2026, the federation’s flagship walking gathering that will bring hikers from across Europe together through shared routes, cultural exchange, and regional trail experiences. Alongside major events, ERA is also expanding visibility through monthly photo contests, walking quizzes, and new trail publications in countries such as Serbia.
The organisation’s broader mission remains practical: improve trail quality, support responsible tourism, and make hiking more accessible to younger and more diverse communities. With more than sixty member organisations across Europe, ERA is increasingly positioning walking not only as recreation, but as a social and environmental movement. For many outdoor communities, this shift signals that hiking is no longer just about reaching destinations it is becoming a shared European language of mobility, health, and connection.
