Climbing Facts & History
Galdhøpiggen: The Roof of Northern Europe
Standing tall at 2,469 meters, Galdhøpiggen is the highest peak in Norway and all of Northern Europe. Located in Jotunheimen National Park, this alpine giant draws thousands of hikers and climbers every year. Two primary routes lead to the summit: one from Juvasshytta that crosses a glacier only accessible with a guide and another from Spiterstulen, which is longer but glacier-free.
At the top, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views and can enjoy refreshments at a seasonal cabin. During the warmer months, the nearby Galdhøpiggen Summer Ski Centre opens, offering high-altitude skiing up to 2,200 meters.
With a history dating back to its first ascent in 1850, Galdhøpiggen remains a symbol of adventure, endurance, and natural beauty. Whether you’re a seasoned mountaineer or an enthusiastic trekker, this peak promises an unforgettable experience.

Sung Su Lee Conquers ‘Burden of Dreams’ with Integrity and Precision
On 12 May 2025, South Korean climber Sung Su Lee achieved the fifth ascent of ‘Burden of Dreams’ (9A), the iconic boulder problem in Lappnor, Finland, first established by Nalle Hukkataival in 2016. Lee dedicated approximately 10 sessions on the actual boulder and an additional 10 on a replica to prepare. Initially, he believed he had completed the climb, but upon reviewing footage, he noticed his t-shirt had brushed the mat a potential ‘dab’. Demonstrating commendable integrity, Lee returned to execute a flawless ascent. His accomplishment follows previous repeats by Will Bosi, Simon Lorenzi, and Elias Iagnemma, reaffirming ‘Burden of Dreams’ as a benchmark in elite bouldering.

View DetailsPasang Lhamu Sherpa: A Trailblazer on Everest
Pasang Lhamu Sherpa made history as the first Nepalese woman to summit Mount Everest on April 22, 1993. Born in the Solukhumbu district to a family of climbers, she was drawn to the mountains early in life. Pasang had already scaled major peaks like Mont Blanc and Cho Oyu, and Everest was her lifelong dream. After three unsuccessful attempts, she reached the top on her fourth try but tragically died during the descent due to severe weather. Her legacy is powerful: she was posthumously awarded the nation’s highest honor, and landmarks such as the Pasang Lhamu Highway and Mountaineering Foundation were named in her memory. More than a climber, Pasang became a symbol of resilience, breaking barriers for women in a male-dominated space and showing Nepal and the world that determination knows no gender.
